I lived with my family in Sunninghill circa 1963-1967. I remember a shop called "Small Bones" at the time where I could buy sweets. Is it still around?

A family tree enquiry. I have relatives living at 9 The Terrace in 1901, Elizabeth Dale, Gertrude Perrin and Basil Perrin. Any info gratefully received. Also does anyone have a photo of this street/house, so I can see where they lived?

Thanks

Beech Grove, Cheapside Sunninghill is Grade 11 listed building. However, it was partly destroyed by fireafter 1930 or suffered bomb damage in WW2. Can anyone help with a photo or painting of the Original House?

I am now living in New Zealand but I enjoyed flicking around the site visiting old haunts. I lived in Sunninghill for 30 years from 1972 - 2001, and my family is still there. Sunninghill's history is really interesting - I remember having to do a local history project on it when I was at Charters. It used to be a notable spa town (hence The Wells pub). Look forward to seeing the history page up and running. A good site for catching up with school friends (St Michaels is registered, as is Charters) is www.friendsreunited.co.uk

Hi, great informative website. I am interested to find out if their is any info or link to any other website with further information on St Michaels school. I currently live in Johanesburg in South Africa and went to school here in about 1983. I am travelling to the U.K in December and would like to show my family Sunninghill as well as the school. I would appreciate any assistance in this regard. Many Thanks Nic Malton

Barclay School For Partially Sighted Girls

Does anyone remember when the Royal Berkshire Hotel was a school for visually impaired girls? The school was on that site from the 1940s until it closed in 1969. I was a pupil there from 1958 to 1962 and I am still in touch with many women who spent some or all of their school days there. It had a very harsh regime. Parents were not welcomed (visiting days were sparse) and we spent every week-end trudging round the streets of Sunninghill and Sunningdale on long 'crocodile' walks. We did most of the cleaning and a lot of the gardening ourselves. Many children lived too far away to go home except in the school holidays (some lived as far away as Darlington) but even those who were local had to board. I am keen to contact people who can remember the school and who can tell me more about it. It would be interesting to simply know what local residents thought of it - we were kept almost entirely separate from the local community. We did, however, go to Sunninghill and Sunningdale churches and we were invited to Silwood College on bonfire night. We had a few visitors - Mr. Pitt who taught us ballroom dancing, Mr. Reid (the Sunninghill church organist) who taught us recorders and musical appreciation) and various people who gave us talks in the evenings including Mr. Siddon from Silwood College. We also entered a few local singing competitions. I am now an academic (no thanks to the education we received at the school which was terrible!) and I have written quite a few chapters and articles about our experiences there. We had a reunion at the Royal Berkshire Hotel in 1990 where many contacts were made. I would be really interested to hear from anyone who remembers us or had any contact with the school.
