Gravel Extraction in Egham - 250 lorries per day for 15yrs

You may be aware that Surrey County Council are considering an application from Hanson to extract gravel at Milton Park Farm in Egham, which is due to be decided (they say) in December. Runnymede Borough Council, the Chamber of Commerce and all the local Residents Associations have objected to the application (traffic congestion, limited access options, pollution of air and ground-water, drainage and flooding, green belt, noise pollution) but the matter will be decided by the County Council.

Surrey County Council have a target set by Central Government for how much gravel must be sourced locally,  and in June of this year the targets were revised downwards by nearly 50%. Surrey is therefore “consulting” on their new MINERALS PLAN, for the best way to meet the new requirements. Notwithstanding this, they are proposing to decide the Hanson application based on the old guidelines and old plan.

Egham Chamber of Commerce is planning to make representations objecting to both the Hanson planning application and the Minerals Plan.

If you think it is outrageous that we should have 250 heavy lorries a day going through Egham for the next 15 years, and a concrete works behind Manorcroft school, you may wish to make representations. The new Draft Minerals Plan has identified Egham as the largest “preferred area” for gravel extraction in Surrey.  If you are worried about this, you should take part in the consultation exercise. Please note the deadline for commenting on this consultation is 18 December 2010.
